Hanabi Hanafuda
A hanafuda deck using firework illustrations from 19th century cataglogues
In 1890s London, a British fireworks company published catalogues for Japanese flares and rockets, that were illustrated with beautiful wood-block prints in the ukiyo-e style. We have taken 12 of the types in four colours to make a hanafuda (flower cards) and celebrate the fact that the Japanese for fireworks is "fire flowers"
The fireworks called peonies, chrysanthemums, dahlias and willows serve to make a hanafuda set like no other.
